FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When does The Witcher 4 come out?
There is no release date yet. CD Projekt Red is targeting a 2028 release window, a goal CEO Michał Nowakowski announced in August 2026 and the company repeated in its H1 2026 report in September.
Which platforms will The Witcher 4 be on?
No platforms have been officially listed. CD Projekt Red and Epic say the technology is being built for PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and the 2025 tech demo ran on a base PS5. A Switch 2 version is, in CDPR's words, too early to talk about.
Is Geralt in The Witcher 4?
Yes. CD Projekt Red confirmed that Geralt appears, and Doug Cockle voices him at the end of the reveal trailer. His role has not been revealed.
Who is the main character?
Ciri, now working as a professional witcher with a lynx medallion. In English she is voiced by Ciara Berkeley, who replaces Jo Wyatt.
Do I need to play The Witcher 3 first?
No. Game director Sebastian Kalemba has said the game should be a good entry point for new players. Playing The Witcher 3 gives you more context for Ciri and Geralt, though.
What engine does The Witcher 4 use?
Unreal Engine 5. CD Projekt Red left its own REDengine and works with Epic Games on the technology.
Where is The Witcher 4 set?
An open world on the Continent. The tech demo took place in Kovir, in the port town of Valdrest, and the developers have said at least part of the game is set there.
Is The Witcher 4 part of a trilogy?
Yes. It is the first game in a new trilogy, and CD Projekt Red plans to release all three games within six years. The trilogy will most likely not get expansions in the Witcher 3 sense.
Will The Witcher 4 get a physical edition?
CD Projekt Red intends to. In an interview in August 2026, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the studio wants a boxed edition with physical extras. Whether the box contains a disc depends on the console makers, so on some platforms it may only hold a download code. The contents have not been revealed.
