Leo
Leo was a young trainee at Kaer Morhen, the stronghold of the School of the Wolf, and the youngest person living there when the first Witcher game begins. He appears only in the games, not in Sapkowski’s books.
An orphan of the war with Nilfgaard, Leo was found by Vesemir and brought to the keep, where he passed the trial known as the Choice but never went through the mutations, so he was never a full witcher. He trained with Eskel and Lambert, looked up to Geralt, and had been in fights but never killed a man.
In The Witcher
In the prologue, shortly after an amnesiac Geralt is brought back to Kaer Morhen, the Salamandra attack the keep to steal the witchers’ secrets. Leo fights alongside his teachers. When he tries to take on the Professor in the laboratory, he is cut down by a single crossbow bolt and dies in Geralt’s arms.
The witchers burn his body on a funeral pyre in the valley, with Triss Merigold present, and then split up to hunt down his killers. Avenging Leo and recovering what was stolen drives the main story of Witchers’ Secrets and the Act II quest Wanted.
In The Witcher 3
Leo is not forgotten. South of Kaer Morhen there is a cenotaph to him, and Geralt remarks that it was a senseless death that could have been avoided. He also comes up in conversation, including with Vesemir.
