Pontar Valley

The Pontar Valley is the region in which most of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings takes place. Four kingdoms, Temeria, Redania, Kaedwen and Aedirn, share borders here, and the valley itself forms the physical frontier between them, which makes it a place of great strategic value. A popular saying holds that whoever controls the Pontar Valley controls the North.

As a result, the neighboring kingdoms have fought over the valley many times. The causes have varied: nobles chasing political gain, merchants competing for trade rights, riots and massacres, elven uprisings and rebellions by frontier barons. Peasant revolts have also broken out on occasion, usually prompting rival factions to set aside their quarrels and join forces to put them down.

During the events of the game, the valley once again became the stage for significant and violent events.
