Hot Potato

Hot Potato is a secondary quest in The Witcher that Haren Brogg hands out at the end of Act I, once Strangers in the Night is done, and that wraps up in Act II in Vizima’s Temple Quarter. Haren wants a small parcel delivered to a man called Coleman at the Hairy Bear inn, on the clear understanding that nobody asks what is inside.

The delivery never happens. Geralt’s arrival in Vizima comes with an arrest, and when he gets his belongings back the parcel is gone: the jailer Jethro has kept it as illegal goods, and that is the end of that. All that is left is the awkward chat with Coleman, who takes the loss surprisingly well, as long as Geralt plays along.

Walkthrough

  1. After Strangers in the Night, take the parcel from Haren Brogg in the Outskirts.
  2. Travel on to Vizima; after the arrest, collect your belongings and discover the parcel has been confiscated.
  3. Find Coleman at the Hairy Bear inn in the Temple Quarter and tell him what happened.
  4. Choose how to settle it (see consequences).

Quest Consequences & Choices

  • Promise never to deliver for him again: Coleman lets you off the hook.
  • Offer him 100 orens: he just laughs, and nothing changes.
  • Tell him to forget it: he gets angry, and the next time you visit the inn at night you have to fight off bandits before he forgives you.
  • If Coleman dies before you talk to him, this quest cannot be finished, so see him before meeting Raymond Maarloeve if you let the Scoia’tael take Haren’s cargo.
