Overview
Race: The Great Erasmus Vegelbud Memorial Derby is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set at the Vegelbud Residence outside Novigrad. It becomes available after most of Get Junior. An announcer in Hierarch Square calls out the race. Take an invitation from his table to start.
Three races
At the estate, the race master takes a 100-crown entry fee for each race. The courses are long, so watch Roach’s stamina.
- Race one pays in crowns and the Superior racing saddle.
- Race two pays in crowns and Rugged saddlebags.
- Race three is against Luc Vegelbud, always in the rain. Watch for a Y-split where neither path is blocked. Winning pays the Superior cavalry saddle, plus a bonus for sweeping all three.
The Palio
After the last win, one of Cleaver’s men hands Geralt a message. Back in Novigrad, Cleaver asks him to ride as his entry in the Palio. Once you agree the race starts at once, and you only get one try, so save first. The course runs across Grassy Knoll and back. Win and Cleaver pays handsomely on top of the prize, which includes Racing horse blinders. Either way, the temple guard arrives to break up the party, and you can slip away without a fight.
