Stranger in a Strange Land

A tavern brawl in Arinbjorn ends in death, and Geralt wakes up in Madman Lugos' prison at Kaer Muire.

Overview

Stranger in a Strange Land is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set in the Skellige Isles. It only happens if Contract: The Phantom of Eldberg is completed between The King is Dead – Long Live the King and King’s Gambit.

The brawl

When Geralt collects his pay from Jorund at the inn in Arinbjorn, the brothers Kori and Kraki show up again, and this time it turns into a fistfight. Geralt is knocked down no matter what, and the brothers draw steel and mortally wound Jorund. Geralt kills them and hears Jorund’s last words. Outside, their father Leif confronts him, and Geralt is taken to Madman Lugos’ prison at Kaer Muire.

Getting out

There are three ways to reach the jarl:

  • Use Axii on the guard through the grate.
  • Accept help from the prisoner Simun Brambling, who calls in a favor with the guard. Geralt then owes Simun a favor, which later becomes An Unpaid Debt.
  • Pick a fistfight with the other prisoners. The guard is so impressed he rushes Geralt to trial.

The trial

Leif demands a harsh sentence. Lugos condemns Geralt to death unless he pays an absurd sum in silver, then announces he will pay the blood price himself. It is pure theater. If you have not yet done The Cave of Dreams, Lugos wants Geralt in his debt so he will help his son Blueboy. If you have, he is simply returning the favor.
