The King is Dead, Long Live the King is the main quest that introduces the politics and the people of Skellige in The Witcher 3. Crach an Craite, an old friend, invites Geralt and Yennefer to the farewell feast for King Bran, and in Skellige that is not an invitation you turn down. Geralt meets Yennefer at the castle gates, and Yennefer has opinions on what he should wear.
The wake
The feast at Kaer Trolde is a proper Skellige affair: mead flows freely, the jarls boast and bicker, and Geralt can drink, arm-wrestle, brawl and chat his way through the hall. It is also where he meets the candidates for the throne, among them Crach’s children, Cerys and Hjalmar an Craite, whose quests will shape who becomes the next ruler.
A private matter
In the middle of the celebration, Yennefer asks Geralt to join her somewhere private, and not for the reason you might think. She wants to break into the laboratory of the druid Ermion to steal an artifact called the Mask of Uroboros. The break-in goes wrong in a very Yennefer way, leaving the two of them trapped and fighting off what the lab throws at them, before she teleports them back to the wake.
