Wandering in the Dark is a main quest in Velen that takes Geralt and Keira Metz underground in search of a mysterious masked elf, a mage who has also been hunting for Ciri. Keira has her own reasons for finding him, and Geralt hopes he knows where Ciri went.
Into the elven ruins
The entrance lies in a marshy part of Velen, and the path leads through flooded caves and old elven ruins full of drowners, foglets and worse. Soon after they enter, it becomes clear that the Wild Hunt has beaten them to it. The Hunt’s navigator can teleport its warriors from place to place, while Geralt and Keira have to push forward on foot, clearing blocked passages, closing portals that spill White Frost into the chambers and solving the puzzles the elf left behind.
Zireael
Along the way they find an illusion the elf left for Ciri, guiding her to his hideout and calling her Zireael, the Elder Speech word for swallow. It tells Geralt two things: the elf knows Ciri well, and the swallows painted on the walls are there to show her the way. The trail ends in the elf’s laboratory, where Geralt faces the Wild Hunt warrior Nithral. With the fight over, Geralt and Keira search the place for information and learn that the witch from Hendrik’s notes was not Keira at all, but someone living in Crookback Bog.
