Golan Vivaldi

A dwarven banker in Vizima who lost control of the family bank and is suspected of financing Salamandra in The Witcher.

Golan Vivaldi is a dwarf of the Vivaldi family of bankers in The Witcher, and a bitter one. The family bank in Vizima’s Trade Quarter still carries his name, but it has been taken over by human owners, and Golan now lives in poverty among the nonhumans of the Temple Quarter, next door to Kalkstein. He is touchy about his race and has little love left for humans.

In The Witcher

In Act II, Yaevinn of the Scoia’tael asks Geralt to carry a letter to Vivaldi in Worth Its Weight in Gold, but Golan refuses to fund the rebels. His dealings with nonhumans, including the Squirrels, are purely financial. Because the money that bought the freedom of the Professor came through the Vivaldi bank, he becomes a suspect in the hunt for Salamandra in Suspect: Vivaldi. In the end the evidence clears him: the bank is his in name only.

Vivaldi is also useful for A Mysterious Tower: he can sell Geralt a copy of The Secret Gates, one of the books Kalkstein needs. Depending on choices made in Act I, he may hand over both The Secret Gates and Ain Soph Aur instead. During Act II he lets Geralt sleep at his house for free whenever he likes.

In Act III, Yaevinn tricks Geralt into clearing a passage under the city in Echoes of Yesterday, and it leads to the bank. The robbery that follows is Gold Rush. By the Epilogue, Vivaldi is lying low in a safe house, because both the Scoia’tael and the Order of the Flaming Rose now see him as a traitor.
