Reaping Time

Reaping Time is a main quest in Act III of The Witcher that sends Geralt back into the Swamp Forest. Vaska, eldress of the brickmakers, explains that Roland Bleinheim and his Salamandra thugs have kidnapped her people and are forcing them to gather beggartick, a key ingredient in fisstech. She wants the captives freed and Bleinheim dealt with.

The prisoners are split into three groups, each with its own Salamandra guards: one near the collapsed tower in the north, one in the lumberjacks’ old glade and one in a herb-gathering cave, which also happens to hold a boy who went missing back in Act II. Free them all and Vaska welcomes Geralt into the community that worships the Lords of the Water, then sends him on to the hierophant in the Druids’ Grove.

Walkthrough

  1. Go to the brickmakers’ village in the Swamp Forest and talk to Vaska about the Salamandra.
  2. Free the brickmakers held near the collapsed tower in the north and talk to them.
  3. Free the group in the lumberjacks’ old glade and talk to them.
  4. Free the group in the herb cave (watch out for cockatrices) and talk to them. The missing boy is here too; talk to him and send him home.
  5. Return to Vaska. Ask her about the boy before you finish this quest, so his own quest does not fail.
  6. Accept Vaska’s gifts and head to the Druids’ Grove to speak with the hierophant.

Quest Consequences & Choices

  • You can shortcut the whole thing by killing Bleinheim at the nonhuman camp and taking the encrypted document from his body; the rescues then become unnecessary for the main story.
  • Turning in Reaping Time before dealing with the missing boy’s quest makes that quest fail, along with its XP.
  • Picking the psilocybe mushroom in the cave removes a later conversation option with the hierophant about why it is needed.
