The Wild Hunt is a Chapter 1 journal quest in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings that pieces together what Geralt, still suffering from amnesia, can learn about the spectral riders known as the Wild Hunt. There is no quest giver and no monster to slay here: the entries fill in as Geralt reads, talks and remembers in and around Flotsam.
In a hospital basement he finds medical notes about a patient who claimed wraiths had carried him off to a world of mass graves and unicorns. When the man finally got back, so many years had passed that his children had died of old age. A Nilfgaardian manuscript titled “The Wild Hunt” adds that the riders are a Nordling legend with no place in elven or dwarven lore.
The real breakthrough comes after Geralt questions Iorveth’s captain Ciaran and the flashback to the Isle of Avallach is triggered: the hidden island he reached after dying in the Rivian pogrom. Talking it over with Dandelion or Roche brings back his own memories of the Hunt, which seemed able to appear even there, unbound by time and space.
