Hunting Magic is a Chapter 2 main quest in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, set in and around Vergen on the Iorveth path. It is one of the ingredient hunts for A Matter of Life and Death: to cure the poisoned Saskia, Philippa Eilhart needs a huge dose of Power, and the quickest source is a magic crystal.
Asking around town eventually leads Geralt to Cecil Burdon, Vergen’s alderman, who points him to a ruined tower where a sorcerer once lived. Inside, harpies have been hoarding dreams they stole and sealed in crystals, and the first one Geralt brings back turns out to be Cecil’s own. It is not nearly strong enough, so the hunt moves to the harpy lair in the quarry, which Cecil keeps locked.
Philippa lets slip Cecil’s secret: he has sworn off drink, which would not do his reputation among dwarves any favours. A little leverage gets the gate opened, and Cecil puts a bounty on the harpy queen while he is at it. Deep in the lair, among the dreams of Iorveth, Letho and a rather lovesick peasant, Geralt finds the prize: a dream stolen from a dragon.
