Henselt
Henselt is the king of Kaedwen in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. He had a poor reputation: he had annexed Lormark, known to its people as Upper Aedirn, while Aedirn was fighting Nilfgaard on its southern border, a move the late King Demavend sharply condemned. His feuds with neighbors and his harsh persecution of nonhumans, which drained his kingdom’s strength and treasury, added to his unpopularity.
Though aging, Henselt remained driven by ambition and wanted war to retake Lormark, a province he had once given up. He had sentenced the sorceress Sabrina Glevissig to death, and she had laid a terrible curse on him, and Geralt lifted the curse. Freed of it, the king pursued his plans with renewed vigor and even agreed to shed his own royal blood for a stranger if it served his war.
His past caught up with him when Kaedweni nobles, who considered his earlier attack on an ally dishonorable, formed a conspiracy against him. Henselt answered by having Vernon Roche’s men killed and personally assaulting Ves, which made Roche his mortal enemy. Possible outcomes include Henselt being spared at Vergen because of his royal blood, or being killed by Roche in revenge for his soldiers.
