Kimbolt

In The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Baron Kimbolt is one of the most powerful men in Temeria, and his influence grows further after King Foltest’s death. He is known for ruthlessly removing anyone in his way; his only redeeming trait is said to be his love of hunting dogs, which he had to leave behind when he went to Loc Muinne. Geralt finds him deeply unpleasant but must deal with him because of his apparent link to the disappearance of Boussy, Foltest’s son.

Geralt’s investigation reveals that Kimbolt paid someone to kill Boussy. Aiming to take the Temerian throne, the baron planned to get rid of both of Foltest’s illegitimate children, relying on a distant family connection to the late king to support his claim. Earlier, when he still hoped to become king on his own merits, he ordered the torture of Aryan La Valette and of Louisa La Valette to extract false confessions that Boussy and Anais were born of incest between mother and son.

The baron’s fate depends on Geralt’s findings. In one outcome, John Natalis has Kimbolt arrested and he answers for his role in Boussy’s disappearance. In another, both Kimbolt and Count Maravel are exposed, but Natalis lacks the men to arrest both, so Kimbolt escapes for now while his troops help arrest Maravel. Alternatively, Geralt may judge the evidence too thin to accuse him, and Natalis continues to regard him as innocent.
