Honorton

Honorton is a small village in the Mire, in southwestern Velen, lying between Claywich to the west and the Boatmakers’ Hut to the east. It is not marked on the map, and when Geralt finds it, it is not really a village any more. A handful of huts and a barn stand eerily quiet, the air smells of corpses, a dead dog lies outside one door and alghouls are feasting on the bodies between the buildings. The only survivor is a little girl hiding behind a large tree.

In The Witcher 3

The villagers had a problem in the woods, a “spook” that only a witcher could handle, and they posted a contract on the notice boards of Crow’s Perch and Oreton. The spook was a leshen, the Beast of Honorton, and by the time Geralt arrives someone has already killed it. Its head lies in one of the huts.

Clearing out the necrophages is just the beginning. Geralt examines the bodies, the barn and the blood, finds the girl, Millie, and calms her down with her lost doll or a little Axii. She gives him a medallion she found in the barn, and it belongs to the School of the Cat. A blood trail leads past a pack of wolves and a stone circle to the wounded witcher Gaetan. His side of the story: the ealdorman offered a paltry sum for the leshen, and when Gaetan demanded the agreed fee, the villagers tried to trick and kill him instead. Geralt can let him go or fight him, and either way he takes Millie to her aunt in Oreton.

Good to know

• Honorton has no signpost. Fast travel to Claywich or the Boatmakers’ Hut and ride over.
• Where the Cat and Wolf Play… fails if you wander too far away, so don’t leave Millie behind.
• Killing Gaetan gets you his sword Teigr straight away. Sparing him unlocks Take What You Want, where the same sword waits in his stash north of Keira’s cottage.
