Manfred
Manfred is an ageing Kaedweni soldier in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, a veteran of many battles who has lived a full life. In Chapter 2 on Roche’s path he sits drinking alone in the canteen of King Henselt’s camp.
In The Witcher 2
His son Sven has challenged Letande Avet, the Butcher of Cidaris, to a duel to the death, and the thought of outliving his boy has broken the old man. In The Butcher of Cidaris, Manfred asks Geralt to help Sven, and in return offers what he knows about the conspiracy Geralt is investigating.
Whatever happens in the arena, Manfred keeps his word: he gives Geralt information for the conspiracy investigation and a square coin. If Sven survives, he is overjoyed; if not, he is grief-stricken and disappointed in the witcher.
