Sven
Sven is a young man in King Henselt‘s camp in Chapter 2 of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, met on Vernon Roche‘s path. He is the son of the old soldier Manfred, and he is brave, stubborn and quick to take offence. Unfortunately, he has set his heart on a duel to the death with Letande Avet, the knight known as the Butcher of Cidaris, and his father is convinced it will get him killed.
In The Witcher 2
Geralt first sees Sven and Manfred arguing outside the camp canteen. Manfred, drinking heavily inside, has information Geralt needs for Conspiracy Theory, but he will only share it if the witcher helps his son first. That sets up The Butcher of Cidaris.
Geralt finds Sven training outside the inn. He is rude at first, but once Geralt makes clear how serious things are, he agrees to turn the duel into a two-on-two fight with the witcher as his partner. Letande, who boasts that he is better than any witcher, takes Edwin “The Petal” Leistham as his own second, and the four meet in the camp arena.
Sven can survive the fight or die in it. If he lives, Manfred is overjoyed. If he dies, Geralt has to break the news to his father. Either way, Manfred keeps his word and tells Geralt what he knows about the conspiracy. Finishing the quest also catches the king’s attention and opens up the arena tournament, Ave Henselt!.
