Downwarren is a poor, superstitious village in Velen, close to the northern edge of Crookback Bog, and the people there live with one eye on the swamp. The ealdorman rules over a community that leaves offerings for the Ladies of the Wood, and anyone who shows up claiming to work for the Crones gets a very different welcome than an ordinary stranger.

In the game, Downwarren is tied to two big questlines. The main quest The Whispering Hillock decides the state the village ends up in, and the Bloody Baron’s later trek into Crookback Bog begins from the map marker just outside it. It is also where Geralt has to prove to the ealdorman that he is acting on the Crones’ behalf, using the dagger they give him.
