Claywich

Claywich is a small village in southwestern Velen, in the Mire, just north of Oreton. It is a quiet cluster of cottages in the forest country above Lake Wyndamer, with a grindstone in the yard and a trader’s shop. Once a year it comes alive: every Belleteyn, Claywich throws a great feast with games, songs and dancing, and visitors from far and wide are welcome. Shortly before midnight the young people run off into the forest to look for the fabled fern flower. Nobody has found one yet, but plenty have found their other half, or at least a night of moonlit passion.

In The Witcher 3

When Geralt first passes through, two of Claywich’s most useful residents are missing. The village merchant has been taken prisoner at the Bandits’ Camp on an island southeast of the Boatmakers’ Hut. Free him from his cage and he heads home, greets Geralt with six bottles of dwarven spirit and opens his shop. He plays gwent with a Northern Realms deck and sells a handful of gwent cards, which makes him an important stop for card collectors.

The village barber was also kidnapped by bandits and is held in a camp west-southwest of Hangman’s Alley. Rescue him and he returns to Claywich, promising Geralt a free shave and haircut. Whether he actually keeps that promise seems to depend on luck.

Claywich is also where the peasants from A Greedy God end up if Geralt kills their sylvan “god”, the Allgod, and the massacred village of Honorton lies just to the east.

  • Save before you open the merchant’s cage. He is known to bug out, and if he won’t talk after you arrive in Claywich, reload or meditate until daylight.
  • Buy every gwent card he sells while you can.
