Harborside
Harborside is the working end of Novigrad, the district that ties the docks to the rest of the city. Nobody really lives here: the streets are lined with warehouses big and small, stacked with crates, barrels and sacks, and they open onto wooden quays where merchant cogs and fishing boats tie up in long rows. By day it is all shouting dockhands, creaking cranes and the smell of tar and salt. After dark the city’s own map politely describes it as a den of dirt and depravity, home to loose women, hoodlums and drunk sailors, and that is not much of an exaggeration.
The district borders Silverton to the north and Glory Lane to the east, and the Portside Gate links it with Farcorners outside the walls. Most of the Continent’s big trading companies keep warehouses here, which makes Harborside the pride of the city’s merchants even if they would never be caught there at night.
In The Witcher 3
The Novigrad Docks signpost is Geralt’s gateway to the sea: Destination: Skellige begins here, and the harbour comes back into play when the story builds up to the final battle. While King Radovid is in town, his flagship, the HMS Oxenfurt-Tretogor, is moored here too.
For a drink and a brawl, the rowdy Golden Sturgeon tavern is the place, popular with sailors and dockhands. The witch hunters keep an outpost in the district as well, and Geralt visits it in Count Reuven’s Treasure.
The Harborside notice board is where Geralt picks up Contract: Deadly Delights, which ends with a succubus, and the opening card for Gwent: Big City Players. Along the back wall of the district, a human and a dwarf argue over who put a monster in their shared warehouse; the culprits in Warehouse of Woe turn out to be nekkers.
