Is The Witcher 3 Remastered a free upgrade?
Yes. The Remastered update released on September 29, 2026 is free for everyone who already owns the game on GOG, Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch owners get a native Switch 2 version. Do I need to play the first two games?
No. The story stands on its own, and the game introduces its characters as you meet them. Knowing the books and the earlier games adds depth, and our reading guide shows where to start with the books.
How many endings does The Witcher 3 have?
The main story has three endings for Ciri, decided by how Geralt treats her during the game. Many other outcomes, such as the fate of the Northern Kingdoms and Geralt’s relationships, are decided separately. Our endings guide explains them all, and the Ending Calculator tells you where your choices lead.
Which expansion should I play first?
Hearts of Stone. It takes place in No Man’s Land and Novigrad and is recommended from around level 30. Blood and Wine takes Geralt to Toussaint and is meant to be played last, from around level 34.
